John Earls Award

The following is a history of the John Earls Award.  This award represents the better aspects of the game.  Things like friendships, loyalty, sportsmanship and honor.  It’s not just based on talent.  It’s what you do for the game – what you give back to the game.  The award is presented during the annual Cincinnati Metro tournament opening ceremonies.

 

2018 – Bob “Buck” Owens – Former Manager Expressway Park, Former USSSA Director, Player

2017 – Eron “Big E” Smith – Manager

2016 – Barbie Blesser – Player

2015 – Rob Schlemmer – Manager, Player

2014 – John Tomlinson – Manager, Player

2013 – Bob Shad – Manager, Player

2012 – Theresa Hirschauer – Player

2011 – Lloyd Smith – Manager, Player – Won first Industrial Metro

2010 – Bill Amman – Manager

2009 – Ron Jeffers – Umpire

2008 – Mike Moehring – Manager, Player

2007 – Jerry Fick – Long time ASA umpire assignor and Cincinnati Metro UIC

2006 – Bernie Gierach – Voice of the Metro for 20 years from 1995 – 2014,  Manager

2005 – Gary Macke – Player.  Donated a kidney to a co-worker losing a season of softball

2004 – Jack Erp – Long time manager

2003 – Jim Del Monaco – Former manager of Pastime Park from 1981 – 2002, Manager

2002 – Paul Spaulding – ASA umpire, Player

2001 – Bruce Kraus – Manager, Player

2000 – John Angstadt – Manager,  Player

1999 – Pat Shanks – Player.  Teammate of John Earls.
