I just heard on 1530 homer that Brandon P. has won the NL Gold Glove for 2nd base. I feel like he had a better season last year both offensively (whitch is taken into consideration for the GG) and defensively. He got SCREWED last year! But, maybe they wanted to see him do it on a more consistant basis year to year. Is he THE BEST defensive 2nd baseman in Reds HISTORY? I say so......

Wells you can't be serious. The BEST defensive second baseman in Reds history. I would think that Joe Morgan's Gold Glove's at 2nd base in 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 might have a little bit of an argument. Is that 5 consecutive? And your comparing Phillips 1? Don't get me wrong he is a great defensive infielder but BEST ever?

Hell if your talking defense even Pokey "I couldn't hit myself out of a wet paper bag" Reese had back to back Gold Glove's.

It was a VERY different game back then. Do you believe that Morgan even in his prime, wins 5 straight nowadays? VERY doubtfull in my opinion.

Did Pokey win back to back with the Reds?? I know Boone did, but I think Pokey only won one. Anyway everyone outside of Arizona scratches their head as to why Phillips didn't win it last year.

It goes back to the old saying "you can't compare generations only numbers". Players are just more athletic, bigger and stronger these days. Its called evolution of the game and every sport is in the same boat.

No Boone won only 1. Pokey went back to back. Don't remember the exact years. Boone got a couple after he went to Seattle to "juice up". LOL.

Your right, boone won it in 98, pokey in 99 & 00. I saw those two play, in my opinion Phillips is FAR better, but maybe it only seems that way cause his defense is fresh in my mind. As for Morgan, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a HOF and 5 straight GG, but i will venture to say that now that he got his first one it will be VERY hard to suplant him for many years. I look for Phillips to surpass Morgans GG total. JMO On a side note, while I was lookn' it up, did you realize Davis won 3 straight? It never dawned on me. With his inury reputation I assumed he was never healthy enough to win 3 straight. He also stole 80 bases in a year once! I bet that's a little known fact.

Wells, you cannot win this argument. The only difference this generation is the steriods. I think BPhil is a decent second basemen. Morgan could eat him alive.

I'm not on here saying Phillips has or will have a better carer than Morgan. I'm saying that each in their prim, who do you want FIELDING 2nd base? You can give me Morgans 5 straight GG. But for 4 years in a row during the BRM era Bench, Conception, Morgan and Geronimo ALL won consecutive GGs. Morgan was SUROUNDED by multiple HOF players. There is something to be said for winning a GG on a dynasty championship caliber team, and doing it on a 70 win team. And, I hope you don't think steriods is the only difference between BRM era and now? Just my opinion, but if you put Morgan in THIS era noway he wins 5 GGs.

Brandon Phillips will never make the HOF. That seals the deal. Morgan was better all around, and I want Morgan over Phillips any day.

Fair enough. I still think Phillips has more range and a stronger arm. Kinda like comparing Wells to Wood! Oops, lol Oh No He Didn't..........
