Jon Jamison of Blitz/Watanabe/Weller/Minges/Easton has been named Bud Light-Worth-USSSA “Player of the Year,” while Blitz manager Terry Walton took “Manager of the Year” honors in voting for the “Bud Light-Worth-CINCINNATI SOFTBALL NEWS” Men’s All-City Team for 2009.

Jamison batted .717 with 74 home runs and 220 rbi’s to easily outdistance Jason Brown of EAP/Tiger Fitness/Easton’s Jason Brown eighteen points to three in the voting for “Player of the Year” honors.

“Jon was by far our most consistent hitter all season,” remarked Blitz manager Terry Walton. “He has tremendous power as well as great bat control. He led our team in average, home runs and rbi’s.

“Jon only had two home runs for outs all season,” added Walton. “He has no problem hitting the ball down when needed to all fields. He also did a great job for us filling in at 1st base when needed. He was also a great vocal leader on the team. He also batted .682 in Conference USSSA play and was selected all-tournament six times, including the ‘B’ World.”

On his way to “Manager of the Year” honors, Walton guided his team to an 74-32 mark with three first place finishes, four second place finishes and three third place finishes. Blitz’s three championships were all USSSA “B” NIT’s, and their runner-up finishes included the U-Trip “B” World and a second place overall “B” finish in Conference USSSA.

Three managers – Mike Foulks of PRI/MFAB/Insanity, Rob Schlemmer of EAP/Easton, and John Tomlinson of Saints Softball – shared runner-up “Manager of the Year” honors. Each garnered six points each compared to thirteen for Walton.

Foulks managed PRI/MFAB/Insanity to a 5th place finish in the “B” World this year. The team went 34-26 in USSSA play overall, winning one NIT and earning six top four finishes in tournament play. PRI was 9th in the nation in USSSA national rankings.

Tomlinson’s team went 108-42, winning an astounding sixteen tournaments, including two NIT’s. The Saints finished the season ranked 8th in the nation and 2nd in the Great Lakes Division.

Rob Schlemmer managed EAP to 65-38 record with two tournament titles, including a U-Trip and surprising Major Metro crown.

Three of Greater Cincinnati’s four U-Trip “B” teams – Blitz, EAP and PRI – led all teams with ten, eight and seven selections, respectively. Blitz had six first teamers, EAP three and PRI four.

Only four other teams had multiple selections, including Cronin Ford with three, and the Cincinnati Seminoles, House Rules/Holy Grail/Schmoe’s/Weston Insurance and Saints Softball with two each.

Blitz’s first team selections included Frank Gruber, Jamison, Jimmy Carter, Jason Roesch, Michael Rogers and Walton.

Other first team selections were Jason Brown and Kevin Greene of EAP; Carey Taylor of the Seminoles; Dave Kessler, Roger Drake, Terry Rosenbalm, and Doug Shaneyfelt of PRI; John Trimpe and Jason Gardner of House Rules; Ben Moerlein of AK Tile/Game On/Cooper Sports; and Steve Bosch of Cronin Ford.

“Rookie of the Year” honors were shared by Erik Riley of EAP and Dave Kessler of PRI. Riley batted .577 with 47 runs scored and earned two All-Tournament team selections. Kessler hit .718 with 23 home runs and 72 rbi’s.

Adam Farris of the Base Bandits and Josh Hunter (.551, 14 home runs) of the Saints were co-runners-up for “Rookie” honors.

The Bud Light-Worth-Sports All-City team is selected by area managers whose teams participated in the USSSA “B” or “C” World tournaments in 2009. Qualifying managers were sent ballots on which they were required to nominate team members and provide key statistical information and comments.

Thirteen managers returned ballots, and copies of each were then returned to each manager along with a final ballot to vote for a first and second team at each position, four utility positions, and manager, player and rookie of the year. First team selections received two points, and second team selections one point.

The leading vote recipient at each position was placed on the first team, along with the next four highest point recipients, who were placed in the “utility” category. The next fourteen highest point re-cipients were then placed on the second team.
