CS 2015 TSC Team Champs

MidAmerica Ballyard- August 22, 2015. / Buffalo Joes / Headlines defended it’s TriState Conference Championship title but it was not an easy run for CSB that featured 5 close games.  The opening game featured CSB weathering a 6 run 1st inning by 4 Blue.  The teams mixed in runs along the way until CSB took the lead with a 3 run top of the 6th to make the score 8-7 on a Sac Fly by Joe Frey and 2 run home run by Mike Dillon.  4 Blue tied it in the bottom of the 7th 8-8.  The teams traded 1 hit each over the next 2 innings until CSB scored 1 in the top of the 10th on a sac fly by Chris Conner which held up for the victory.

This brought Cincinnati Dynasty and a game that was also a nail biter.  The teams traded leads until the 7th where Dynasty plated 4 in the top of the inning to take a 9-8 lead.  In the bottom, CSB’s Brad Hargreaves hit a two out two run walk off single to win the game.
In the winners bracket final CSB jumped out to a 8 run lead against Havoc in the first on a grand slam by Brandon Schaiper and a 3 run home run by Josh Bunnell and cruised to a 10-6 final sending CSB to the championship game.
The championship game featured another closely played, extra inning game.  Havoc played their way back to the championship after beating Cincinnati Dynasty 20-13.  The teams were tied 8-8 from the 6th through the 8th.  In the 9th, Havoc broke though plating 5 and forced the IF game.
The if game was another nail biter that had Havoc ahead 3 to 2 though the 5th inning.  In the top of the 6th CSB finally broke out plating 13 runs including home runs by Matt Bock and Josh Bunnell in the inning leading to a run rule 15-3 and the TSC championship.
The key to the championship was great pitching by Dave Huber and Brandon Schaiper keeping hitters off balance, limiting walks and fielding their positions.   Together they combined in the 5 games for a total of 39 runs allowed over the 39 innings pitched.  CSB also got good defense turning 9 double plays.  Coach -Manager Andy Larkins said the TSC win was an all around team effort with timely hitting, good defense and team chemistry.
