Taylormade rallies to prevent Double Dip at Expressway E Super Qualifier

Milford OH -Taylormade has been playing tough all year and they nabbed a big tournament win over a very talented field at Expressway Park. They came out hot with wins over Supremacy and ERA, and met up with SOP in the winner’s bracket finals. Taylormade took the winners bracket final 11-8 but it wouldn’t be the last of SOP. In the championship game SOP woke up the bats and cruised to a 20-3 victory to force the “if” game. Taylormade found themselves down 13-8 going into the bottom half of the 6th and needed a rally. Justin Sowder led off the inning and came up with a huge double, followed by a Rickey Bender hit. Manager Scott Hornsby then opted to pinch hit Tim Booker which turned out to be a success as Booker drilled a shot down the right field line bringing in both runs. This marked the beginning of a 12 run inning that led Taylormade to a victory as Dalton Spears came in and closed it out in the 7th to secure the first tournament win of the year for Taylormade.

Taylormade was led by their offense averaging 16.5 runs a game throughout the tournament. The key offensive standouts were as follows.

Mike Doyle – AH – .833 OBP – 6 RBI
Justin Sowder – CF – .813 OBP – 8 Runs Scored
Aaron Faust – LF – .667 OBP – 13 RBI
Rickey Bender – 2B – .818 OBP – 8 Runs Scored
Jimmy Grzebyk – SS/MI – .579 OBP – 8 RBI

Defensively Taylormade had huge efforts from Aaron Faust, Justin Sowder, Jimmy Grzebyk, and Rickey Bender, all of which were playing out of position because of injuries and absences. Jocko Loveless and Dalton Spears both held it down on the mound for Taylormade throughout. Justin Sowder ended up taking home MVP honors for the tournament for his efforts at the plate and in CF.

Manager Scott Hornsby attributed the win to the “Blue Collar, Gold Swagger” attitude that the team plays with. In his words this means Taylormade stands together, shows heart, battles to the end, and enjoys the success that comes from their hard work.
