Joseph Chevrolet Escapes Heat, Josseppis For SSUSA World Title In Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nv.–In 95 degree heat Joseph Chevrolet men’s 75 + Major softball team captured the SSUSA World Tournament October 1-4, tripping up Josseppis of Seattle, Wa. in a double-finals to wrap up the title.

It all started with four seeding games with Joseph claiming three victories against one loss.  Joseph out-slugged Fairway Ford from California 22-18, then battled past D-99 from California 18-15.  Powerhouse San Francisco Seals, who were undefeated on the season, derailed Joseph 17-14 in game three.  Joseph went on to knock off the California Sun Shine Boys 18-5 to complete pool play.

Heading into double-elimination bracket play, number four seeded Joseph Chevrolet brushed aside the Texas Legends 20-14.  Next came the heavily favored San Francisco Seals, who had given Joseph there only loss in bracket play, and this time the Seals triumphed again by a score of 25 to 12.

Now in the losers’ bracket, Joseph met the Texas Legends once again, and this time sent the Texas team packing with a 25-18 pounding.  That lifted Joseph into the losers’ bracket finals for yet another match-up with the Seals.  Finally, after two previous setbacks, Joseph rose to the occasion and defeated the mighty Seals 20-14.

That pitted Joseph against an undefeated Josseppis from Seattle, Wa. for the title.  The Cincinnati team proved up to the challenge, double-dipping Josseppis 15-8 and 20-17.

The pair of wins over Josseppis capped off an eleven-game, four-day marathon for the champions, who outlasted a strong field in 95-plus degree heat.

Most Valuable Player honors went to Vinnie Remson (.900).  Named to the All-American team were Jim Spelbrink (.870), Frank Vargo (.816), Bill Yeager (.811), and Duffy Stone (.674).
